Raise Emotional Intelligence: How to be More Compassionate

Contrary to popular belief, compassion is a skill that can be mastered.Everyone can learn how to be more empathetic towards others.

The more you develop emotional intelligence, the easier it’ll be for you to be compassionate.Follow us as we talk more about how to raise emotional intelligence and be a kinder, more compassionate human being.

Be compassionate towards yourself.

This is the first rule you hear in every personal development training – be kinder owards yourself. After all, you have to practice what you preach, right?

A good start would be to watch the way you talk to yourself. Learn to love yourself – and learn ways in which you can express that love. You’ll soon notice how you’re more loving towards others as well.

Practice it daily

If you want to make something into a habit, then you know how the rule goes – practice it daily.

Wake up each morning and make the conscious decision that you’re going to be compassionate.

Try to put yourself in the shoes of others you meet along the way. Most importantly of all – don’t judge. Life’s already challenging as it is. Remember that everyone’s probably doing their best anyway.

Learn to listen

You can’t be compassionate if you don’t truly listen to what the other person is saying.Don’t listen only to respond – listen to understand.Focus on what the other person is saying. Ask deliberate questions. Track their body movement. You’ll be surprised just how much your conversations will improve!

Do an act of kindness

An act of kindness is one of the best ways to practice compassion.

It can be anything you like: paying for someone’s cup of coffee, helping someone with their groceries or just smiling to a stranger on the street.

Don’t feel obligated to do an act of act of kindness. Let it come to you naturally – do it

whenever you feel like doing it!
